Fall brings not only the return of school (for those in school at least, or with kids) but also the return of The Writing Journey meetings.
We may have some new subscribers, so let’s reintroduce The Writing Journey. We are a local to the Chicago Suburbs writing group with an amazing virtual presence as well (we have members in several states and offer the vast majority of our free presentations and meetings on Zoom). The Writing Journey comprises paths because everyone has their own path on their… writing journey. :) We offer General meetings monthly, covering topics relevant to writing, publishing, editing, and more. For example, this Saturday, September 14th, we have two amazing presentations about writing mysteries as a genre and a presentation about royals (perfect for those who have questions regarding royals for their royal-themed stories).
We also offer an accountability group, weekly (sometimes multiple times a week) writing time, and a technology path (learning about the technology involved in writing, such as various word processing programs, creating graphics for advertising your work or creating book covers, author websites, and more). Plus, we have some fun paths like D&D and meet-ups.
If you’re not a member (I know some have signed up via recommendations from other Substack authors), it’s completely free. For more information, check out this link here.
But after the September meeting, we’ll publish a few notes of interest from the presentations about royals and writing mysteries.
Novel Quest
For many years, several of our leaders have been volunteers for NaNoWriMo. However, we recently stepped away but still want to do a writing challenge in November. Our area is incredibly active during October to prepare for our nearly daily November write-ins.
But since we have stepped away from NaNo, we had to figure out what we were going to do… and thus… we created the Illinois Novel Quest Challenge (of course, open to all, not just those in Illinois)! This challenge offers writing time, a community tracker, community writing times on many different platforms and lots of motivation.
If you are interested in learning more, check out the first post about ‘What is Novel Quest?’ below.
